Child and Adolescent Assessments

We provide comprehensive psychological evaluations for children and teens to support a deeper understanding of their learning style, developmental profile, and emotional wellbeing. Whether you are seeking clarity around a possible autism diagnosis, investigating learning differences, or navigating school-based concerns, our assessments are designed to provide meaningful, actionable insights. We offer specialized evaluation packages for neurodevelopmental and psychoeducational testing, tailored to each child’s needs and developmental stage, as well as individualized assessments. Our approach is neurodivergent-affirming, family-centered, and grounded in the most current evidence-based practices.

Neurodevelopmental Assessments

Neurodevelopmental evaluations are designed to assess for autism spectrum disorder (ASD), developmental delays, as well as related developmental differences, including intellectual disability (ID).

Our neurodevelopmental assessment packages are tailored to meet the unique developmental stage and needs of each child. The specific components of each package are determined by the child’s age. Each package includes a comprehensive autism assessment—utilizing validated tools—and results in individualized recommendations to support your child at home, in school, and in the community. Psychoeducational Assessments

Psychoeducational assessments are designed to help families and schools better understand a youth’s learning profile. These evaluations explore how a child or teen thinks, learns, and processes information, and are commonly used to identify learning disabilities, attention challenges (such as ADHD), or issues related to executive functioning, memory, or processing speed. Our psychoeducational assessments include comprehensive testing for ASD.

Our evaluations assess core areas such as intellectual functioning, academic achievement, social functioning, and attention, and also include assessment of emotional or behavioral concerns. Results are used to inform educational planning, support eligibility for special education services (IEP or 504 plans), and guide individualized learning supports at home and in school.

In addition, we provide Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs) when families seek an outside perspective on their child’s educational needs. IEEs can offer a thorough, impartial assessment to support appropriate services and ensure that each student’s unique strengths and challenges are fully recognized.

Each evaluation is personalized to the referral questions and developmental stage of the child, and includes a written report with specific, strengths-based recommendations. More information about our psychoeducational assessment packages is included below.

Individualized Assessments

Individualized assessments are available for children and teens when there is a very specific referral question—such as concerns about attention, anxiety, or learning differences—that may not require a full comprehensive evaluation.

This process begins with a comprehensive intake session to gather history, clarify concerns, and identify goals for the assessment. Your clinician then develops a personalized testing plan based on your child’s unique needs, age, and the complexity of the concerns. Depending on the referral question, the assessment may include cognitive testing, academic evaluation, emotional and behavioral measures, diagnostic interviews, and collateral input (e.g., caregiver or teacher reports).

All individualized assessments include a detailed written report and a feedback session to review findings, diagnostic impressions, and clear, strengths-based recommendations.

Individualized assessments are are billed at $300/hour (for services provided by a licensed psychologist) and $150/hour (for services provided by a masters-level psychometrist), with total time and cost depending on the scope of the evaluation.

Child & Adolescent Assessments FAQ

How do I know if my child or teen may benefit from an evaluation?

Children and teens may benefit from an evaluation if they are struggling with attention, learning, behavior, emotions, social relationships, or daily functioning. Some families seek an evaluation because their child is having difficulties at school, while others are looking for a better understanding of their child’s strengths, challenges, and support needs. An evaluation can provide clarity and help guide decisions about treatment, educational supports, and next steps.

What concerns can an evaluation help address?

Evaluations can help answer questions related to attention and executive functioning, learning difficulties, emotional and behavioral concerns, social challenges, developmental differences, and overall functioning. The specific areas assessed depend on your child’s needs and the questions you hope to answer.

Which assessment type is right for my child?

The right evaluation depends on your child’s age, developmental stage, and the questions you’re hoping to answer. A neurodevelopmental assessment may be the best fit if you have concerns about communication, social interaction, developmental milestones, autism, ADHD, or overall development. A psychoeducational evaluation may be more appropriate if your child is school-aged and struggling with learning, attention, executive functioning, or academic progress.

You don’t need to know exactly which assessment to choose before reaching out. We’re happy to learn more about your child, answer your questions, and help recommend the evaluation that best fits your family’s goals.

What is the difference between a psychological evaluation and a school evaluation?

School evaluations are designed to determine whether a student qualifies for special education services or accommodations. A comprehensive psychological evaluation provides a broader understanding of a child’s cognitive, emotional, behavioral, social, and developmental functioning. It can offer insights and recommendations that support success at home, school, and in the community.

Can an evaluation help my child receive school accommodations?

An evaluation may provide information that supports requests for school accommodations or services. Assessment findings and recommendations can help guide discussions about supports such as a 504 Plan, Individualized Education Program (IEP), classroom accommodations, or other educational interventions.

What ages do you evaluate?

We provide evaluations for children and adolescents of all ages and developmental stages. The assessment process is tailored to each child’s age, developmental level, and individual needs.

What information should I bring to the evaluation?

Helpful information may include report cards, school records, previous evaluations, IEP or 504 plans, medical records, and previously completed questionnaires. Bringing relevant information allows us to develop a more comprehensive understanding of your child’s strengths, challenges, and history.

What will I learn from the evaluation?

Parents often leave with a clearer understanding of their child’s strengths, areas of difficulty, learning style, and support needs. Evaluations are designed to answer your questions and provide practical recommendations that can be implemented at home, school, and in other settings.

Can testing help explain why my child is struggling in school?

Yes. A comprehensive evaluation can help identify factors that may be contributing to academic difficulties, including attention challenges, learning differences, executive functioning difficulties, emotional concerns, developmental differences, or other factors. Understanding the reasons behind a child’s struggles is often the first step toward finding effective supports.

What is executive functioning and how is it evaluated?

Executive functioning refers to skills that help us plan, organize, manage time, regulate emotions, shift attention, and complete tasks. Difficulties with executive functioning can affect academic performance, independence, and daily life. Evaluations may assess executive functioning through interviews, questionnaires, observations, and standardized measures.

What happens after the evaluation?

After the evaluation is complete, families receive a comprehensive written report and participate in a feedback session to review the findings. We discuss strengths, challenges, diagnoses (if applicable), resources, and recommendations for home, school, and community settings. Our goal is to provide clear, actionable guidance that helps families move forward with confidence.
